And so it begins…

.

I ask the question that is the elephant in the clouds….

“Why do it?  AM I CRAZY?”

.

Why start a website about cooking when there are a bazillion other sites with recipes and advice and videos and reviews?  I ask myself that question all the time.  Why the site?

Why should there be a bazillion and one?

It began with the menu plans.  I can cook, and I can organize.  Many of my friends are going through life changes that require alterations in their cooking habits—whether it’s a diet change for health reasons, or having kids, or losing a job and needing to be creative with diminished food dollars, or trying to figure out how to eat more of the seasonal bounty in their meals.

The first few weeks of the change are difficult, and a hand-holding menu plan can be a life saver.  I thought it would be great to have ready-made plans for all kinds of diet needs.   So I started on the plans, and before long, with mountains of recipes piled around me, I became paralyzed by the enormity of the task!

Then everything evolved.  The site became about cooking.

How. To. Cook.

So no matter what kind of change you may have to embrace, or whatever your motivations, you can become more versatile and have more fun in the kitchen.  To explore flavor,  techniques,  foods, recipes, base recipes, and experimentation—this became my new approach to spreading the love.  The menu plans took a back seat, and the idea of a curriculum grew.

And at some point you have to just begin.  So here it is.   The menu plans will come with time, as will the videos, and I am just starting this thing.  Techniques, Flavor, Foods, Recipes, Base Recipes…  My goal is a two year stint, and from there we’ll just see what happens.  Bon Voyage!

  • The answer would be: Because you’re good at doing this kind of thing, and no, you’re not crazy. Cooking is a dying art, and people need help with it. Plain and simple. If for no other reason, let that be the main one.

  • The other day I was trying to figure out what to eat for the week. So I reached in the cabinet and pulled my index box of recipes. This box along with about 30 recipes written out on index cards was a gift I received from Ruth about 30 years ago. It is a constant in my life (along with some of the pots she lent me and I never returned…sorry Ruth)I treasure it with all my heart. Ruth WRITE ON SISTER!

  • Hi!!!

Congrats on the website. Thanks to Matthew for directing me this way. I haven’t had a chance to read yet, but I’m very excited about it. As a recent adventurer into the blog world, I welcome you and wish you the best of luck!

    • Hi Terry! Thanks for the encouragement, and I’ll check out your blog. Come down for Edible Alien Theatre in March!
      Miss you too–Ruth.
