It’s been an incredible fall, brilliant leaves and sunny days hovering right around 70 degrees.  Last week gave us the first drizzly gray day we’ve had in weeks and it was almost a relief—I can handle only so many perfectly cheery sunny days before I crave some good gloomy gray to balance it out.  We need that low-pressure system once in a while to bring us down to earth.

The end of October brings many things (including gray drizzly days), but to me it means a totally geeked-out weekend of Lord of the Rings movie marathon with two of my sisters.  We eat sausages, bacon, squash, dark beer (gf!) and lembas bread.  If you’re going to geek out it might as well be tasty!

That beautiful pink wrapper in the corner is a Lakkrís and Sea Salt Chocolate Bar by Omnom (Iceland).

Taste notes: Creamy caramelised chocolate spiced with raw Persian liquorice and finished with sprinkles of sea salt, harvested from the West Fjords of Iceland, by Saltverk. 

It was phenomenal (thanks Jean!). 

Beautiful lembas hearts made by my sister Alice.

She used a Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Shortbread mix with almond extract added, then brushed some of them with egg white to help hold it together.  Adding whey powder would bring up the protein boost, and make it more authentic (of course).
