Favorites April 2018

I had been to the Pacific Northwest before but had no memory of these spectacular mountains that surrounded us—the Cascades and the Olympics—not to mention the utterly jaw-dropping awe-striking monoliths of the gigantic volcanoes (Rainier, Baker, Adams, St. Helens, Hood). All week we had miraculously sunny weather so the views and hikes were spectacular. It must have been mighty misty, grey, and cloudy on my last visit many years ago, because I would have remembered these splendors of the Pacific Ring of Fire!

Earthquakes, tornadoes and volcanoes, oh my. Every area has its reminder that Nature is in charge. This is Mt. Rainier (Tahoma) in the front and Mt. Adams (Pah Do) to the left, not bad from the window of the airplane.

This is the ferry docked in Port Angeles headed to Victoria, Canada with a view of Mt. Baker (Kulshan) in the background. Below is a buoy-turned-woodfired-pizza-oven at the Finn River Cidery near Port Townsend—fabulous cider and a great place to have a party. The last night on the peninsula was celebrated with a visit to Nourish Cafe in Sequim, a totally gluten-free restaurant with incredible food that I am still thinking about!

Steamed clams with a Portland-brewed Ground Breaker gluten free beer while hanging out on the sunny deck of Sirens in Port Townsend?

Yes, please!
